Abstract
The Hand washing of health care providers is very important in prevention of hospital acquired infection, but the rate and also the method of washing hands remains inadequate. In dongguk university gyeongju hospital, a hand hygiene study for 3 years from 2006 to 2008 on the comparisons of colony number in the hand culture between before and after hand washing revealed 17-25% reduction of colony number after hand washing of health care providers. MRSA was isolated about 9.2% of them before hand washing, but there was no case of MRSA after hand washing. This shows that hand washing by health care workers are relatively effective due to continuous efforts in hand washing program and campaigns in our hospital, but more researsh is needed to fined out the relationship between hand washing compliance and the rates of hospiral acquired infections.
